1. Who we are
HADIQ Talk is made by hadiq.io Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16349516, [OWNER: registered address]). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: info@hadiq.io.
2. The short version
- Your learning history, words, prep plans, letters and debriefs stay on your iPhone.
- Live conversations stream your voice to Microsoft Azure's AI while the call is on. We don't record or keep the audio or what was said.
- Hadi Free, reviews and game checks run on Apple's AI on your iPhone when it has Apple Intelligence; what you say or type there doesn't reach us. On other iPhones they use our server and your talk minutes. Prep, letters and debriefs always stay on your iPhone.
- We keep your account, your purchases and minutes, and usage statistics linked to your account ID (never content). We never sell data, show ads or track you across other apps.
3. What we process, why, and for how long
| What | Why | Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR) | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account: an ID from Sign in with Apple; the name and email address only if you choose to share them with us (Apple may give a private relay address) | To give you an account, restore your minutes on a new iPhone and contact you about your account | Contract | Until you delete your account |
| Beta sign-up on talk.hadiq.io: name, email, the language you learn, your level, your kind of iPhone, the language of the page | To invite you to the beta (TestFlight) and write to you about it | Consent (the tick box); you can withdraw it any time by writing to us | 18 months, or until you ask us to delete it |
| Purchases and minutes: plan or pack, price, currency, App Store country, dates, Apple's transaction IDs, how many minutes you used and when | To give you the minutes you paid for, stop calls when they run out, handle refunds, keep accounting records, prevent fraud | Contract; legal obligation (accounting); legitimate interests (fraud prevention) | Kept indefinitely [OWNER: decide a limit, e.g. 6 years, and we add the deletion]. After account deletion they are kept under a random ID that no longer leads to you |
| Live conversation audio and text | To run the live conversation with the AI tutor | Contract | Not stored by us. Processed by Microsoft Azure during the call (see §5) |
| Text and recordings sent to our server: pronunciation clips (on every iPhone); and, on iPhones without Apple Intelligence, Hadi Free replies, reviews, game checks and Face to face help | To give you the reply, review or result (paid from your minutes) | Contract | Not stored by us; processed in memory by Microsoft Azure |
| Usage statistics: app opened, sign-in, plans viewed, purchase results, sessions started and ended with their length, errors, star ratings you send; a random install ID, app version, App Store country, app language; your account ID when you're signed in | To understand which features help learners, to fix problems and to keep prices sustainable | Legitimate interests [OWNER: or consent in the EU/UK, see owner question 1] | 25 months. You can turn it off in Settings › Share usage statistics |
| Live call records: length, minutes used, estimated cost, language, linked to your account ID | Billing, cost and margin analysis | Contract; legitimate interests | 25 months (not affected by Share usage statistics); minutes used are also in the minutes ledger (above) |
| Diagnostics (on by default, Settings › Send diagnostics): connection and audio events with timings, app version, device model and a pseudonymous account code; never audio or text | To fix connection and audio problems | Legitimate interests | 30 days [OWNER: currently collected from pilot accounts only] |
| Operational records (call segments, admissions, retries) | To run and secure the service | Legitimate interests; contract | Up to 90 days (call lengths are also kept as live call records above) |
| Server logs (no conversation content, no tokens) | Security and reliability | Legitimate interests | 30 days |
We don't use your data for automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, and we don't train AI models on it.
4. What stays on your iPhone
Your profile, learning level, conversation history (if you keep history on; transcripts are deleted after 30 days), words and review schedule, approved memory, game and pronunciation results, Prep plans, letter explanations, debriefs and real-life wins are stored only on your iPhone, inside the app. You can export them (Settings › Export my data) and delete them by category or all at once. They are not in our backups.
- Photographed letters: the photo is read on your iPhone and explained by Apple's AI on your iPhone. Neither the photo nor its text is saved; only the explanation and reply phrases are, on your iPhone.
- Prep and debrief: what you type or say is processed on your iPhone. A rehearsal that matches one of our missions sends only the mission's name to our server, never your text.
- AirPods head gestures (optional): head movement is read on your iPhone to recognise a nod or shake; it is never stored or sent.
- Real-world Ear and Face to face: the sound effects are made on your iPhone. In Face to face, what each person says is turned into text by Apple speech recognition (see §5) and processed by Apple's AI on your iPhone, or by our server on iPhones without Apple Intelligence.
5. Who processes data for us
| Provider | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Speech, Functions, Storage, SQL Database, Application Insights) | Live voice AI, pronunciation checks, text AI on iPhones without Apple Intelligence, our backend, account and ledger storage, business statistics, logs | Our storage and backend run in Sweden (EU). The AI models use Microsoft's global processing: your audio and text may be processed in any Azure region where the model runs. Microsoft handles it under its Azure terms and data protection addendum |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments and refunds, speech recognition, Apple Intelligence on your iPhone | Apple handles it under its own privacy policy. Speech recognition runs on your iPhone when it can; otherwise Apple's servers may be used (the app shows which). Debriefs only use recognition on your iPhone |
[OWNER: if Apple Private Cloud Compute is switched on later (Phase 7, blocked), add: "Some Hadi Free requests may be processed by Apple Private Cloud Compute, which Apple designed so that the data is not stored or accessible to Apple."]
International transfers outside the UK/EEA (for example through Azure's global AI processing) are covered by Microsoft's standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum.
6. Your rights
You can access, export, correct or delete your data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent. In the app:
- Delete account: Settings › Account › Delete account. This deletes your account on our server and revokes the app's Apple access. Your purchase records are kept anonymously for accounting (§3). Your subscription is managed by Apple: cancel it in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions.
- Delete data on this iPhone: Settings › Delete data.
- Usage statistics: Settings › Share usage statistics.
For anything else, email info@hadiq.io. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority in the EU.
7. Children
HADIQ Talk is meant for adults and young people aged [OWNER: 16] and over. [OWNER: confirm with the App Store age rating.]
8. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
